That’s Politics and Philosophy
I know this part of the world is a hot potato and I know from the first read of this blog it looks like I am pro-Palestinian. That isn’t so. I am however, pro human rights, international law and other idealistic standards, and as the facts go it is the Palestinians that are oppressed.
I must then outline some basic stances in order to clarify my position and avoid as much misunderstanding as possible:
- I am not for the dissolution of Israel
- I am for Palestinian self-determination
- I am against the occupation of the West Bank and the barriers to livelihood in the Gaza Strip
- This occupation does not improve the security of Israel
- To criticise current Israeli policy is not to be an anti-Semite
- Terrorists should be treated as criminals and not representatives of the people with which they live
- There is no current peace process – they need one, the world needs one.
I could go on but that is the jist of it. I consider myself a contextualist. I am an outsider. I am not religious and it is not necessary for me to even get into the religious aspects of this conflict. To do so is a justification of the religious and their orders from above.
I’m far too diplomatic for my own good.
